A Week in the Life of a Mystery Shopper

July 25th - July 31st...

What a week. All I can say is... I'M FREAKIN' EXHAUSTED! Last week mystery shopping earned me $1009 in fees and $175 in reimbursements.

  • Over half of my earnings came in just two days: Thursday and Saturday, when I earned $271 and $289, respectively. On Thursday I completed 18 shops - a buffet of everything from restaurants to gas stations to business verifications. On Saturday I took a road trip of 500+ miles to do five highly bonused (4 of the 5 paid $50 each) gas station audits.
  • On Friday I nearly had a day off, as I just completed two gas station shops.
  • Once again, my "last week of the month" strategy of keeping my schedule flexible for bonused shops paid off. Going into the week I wasn't sure how busy it would be.
I don't expect to earn over $1,000 a week by mystery shopping. This was certainly the exception and not the rule. This week should be much slower.

  1. A $1000 in a week. That is impressive. I managed to make a little over $300 this week which is my best week ever and more than I made the rest of the month. This was for just 6 shops but one of the shops took basically two full days to complete. I am starting to get more bonus shops offered to me. Hopefully, that trend will continue.

  2. Two full days? Was it a hotel shop? Still, $300 is nothing to be ashamed of. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to keep up this pace. There's not enough work in the local area and traveling, though necessary, kills my productivity. For example, Saturday's road trip earned me a lot of money, but most of my time was spent driving, not shopping.

  3. It was an open check at a theatre. I had to do a count of all the people attending a movie for every showtime on a Saturday and Sunday. It wasn't really two full days. The movie was on two screens and the first showtime was at 11am and the last was at 9:30pm but I had to be there a little before the first showtime and stay a while after the last. I also had an hour or so between showtimes but I couldn't do much with that. It was time consuming but easy so I can't complain.

  4. I've done a couple of those. There's one theatre that's close enough to my house that I can go home between shows. All the other theatres are too far out so I read a lot when I did those... yes, easy money... easier if the movie is worth watching and you stick around.
